Detectamet, a UK-based manufacturer of food-safe detectable products, developed its new detectable pallet wrap to reduce the contamination of finished food products.

The packaging development was spurred by recent internal industry reports citing the sources of the physical contamination of food; the reports revealed at least 34 percent of the incidents involved process and product packaging. A number of these occurred when bits of pallet wrap got into the process flow.

The new detectable pallet wrap has been affirmed as satisfying US and EU requirements for safe contact with food. It offers good levels of detection in metal detectors and, in trials by experienced wrap users, was found to offer greater resiliency and was less likely to tear than competing pallet wraps.

Detectamet offers the pallet wrap in two sizes. The hand wrapper size is 400mm wide by 200m long, while rolls for wrapping by the machine are 500mm wide by 800m long. v
