A survey of Natural Grocers customers has revealed the top three reasons they decide to purchase organic produce.

The most popular reason was “to avoid pesticides,” with more than 90 percent of respondents choosing it. About 70 percent of respondents listed avoiding genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and about 40 percent said they believed organic produce was a more nutritious option than non-organic produce.

The survey was sponsored by Natural Grocers by Vitamin Cottage, Inc., a specialty retailer of organic and natural groceries, body care products and dietary supplements. Natural Grocers operates 140 stores in 19 states.
