Pita Pal Foods recalls hummus due to listeria found at plant

FDA inspection turned up the bacteria

By Rose Shilling

July 17, 2019

Pita Pal Foods recalled hummus because of concerns about listeria found at a facility during an FDA inspection, not in the finished product, the company announced.

The Houston-based business distributed the recalled plastic tubs of hummus nationwide and to the United Arab Emirates under numerous brand names, including Pita Pal, Bucee’s, Hummus Hummus and Harris Teeter’s Fresh Foods Market. Click on the link at the end for the full list of brands and varieties.

The recalled products were made from May 30 to June 25.

No illnesses had been reported at the time of the recall announcement. “The company is issuing this recall out of an abundance of caution,” the notice says.

People with the products should return them to the store for a refund. Anyone with questions may contact the company at 832-803-9295 or products@pitapal.com.

Follow this link to the company’s chart listing varieties, UPC codes and use by dates.
