California-grown avocados recalled because listeria found at packing site
Henry Avocado issued recall as a caution after routine inspection
Henry Avocado Corporation recalled whole avocados sold in bulk through retailers for possible listeria contamination after positive environmental inspection tests at a packing facility.
The company started packing at the California site in late January, and all of the facility’s shipments are included in the recall for possible Listeria monocytogenes detected during a routine government inspection, the business and the FDA announced.
The organic and conventionally grown avocados were sold in Arizona, California, Florida, New Hampshire, North Carolina and Wisconsin.
The voluntary action is out of caution, the company says. No illnesses were associated with the recall at the time the notice was issued.
The recalled conventional avocados have “Bravocado” stickers. The organic avocados do not say Bravocado but have stickers printed with “organic” and “California.” Stores can identify Henry Avocado organic products by their bar codes.
Avocados from Mexico distributed by Henry Avocado are not subject to the recall.
“We are voluntarily recalling our products and taking every action possible to ensure the safety of consumers who eat our avocados,” says Phil Henry, president of Henry Avocado.
