NORD DRIVESYSTEMS Launches NXD tupH Sealed Surface Conversion System
NORD DRIVESYSTEMS has launched NXD tupH Sealed Surface Conversion System, a surface protection solution that is made to withstand harsh environmental conditions such as hygiene-sensitive applications in food and beverage.
The name combines NXD, meaning NORD eXtreme Duty, and tupH derived from the words “tough” and “pH-value.” The food-safe surface treatment provides aluminum units with properties that make the material comparable to stainless steel when it comes to hygiene and corrosion resistance without the price tag. NORD’s product offering incorporating NXD tupH includes a range of gear units, smooth body motors and decentralized variable frequency drives.
The NXD tupH process begins with the aluminum housing parts undergoing a surface conversion process, creating an extremely inert surface with strong adhesion properties for the next layer. The converted parts are then cured with a thin, high-performance food-grade sealer, resulting in a non-porous surface that can be hygienically cleaned without flaking or corroding after numerous cleaning cycles. NXD tupH surfaces are free from chromates and PFAS, chemically resistant, and food-safe according to the FDA, the EU Regulation 1935/2004 and the respective regulations in Switzerland and the MERCOSUR states.
NXD tupH provides users with an economical and durable solution comparable to stainless steel drives. Since the surface protection system utilizes aluminum housings, the drives are much more lightweight than heavy stainless steel, enabling a compact design that is easier to handle and install. Aluminum additionally offers high thermal conductivity for quicker heat dissipation, allowing the units to achieve a higher power density and lower peak surface temperatures.
NORD offers NXD tupH Sealed Surface Conversion System with many of its standard products, allowing for numerous configuration options with no separate warehousing or installation costs. It is available for all NORD aluminum products with a smooth surface, including the DuoDrive integrated gear unit and motor, the energy-efficient non-ventilated (TENV) IE5+ smooth surface motors, IE3 smooth surface motors, as well as gear units such as the NORDBLOC.1 helical incline, UNICASE parallel shaft, NORDBLOC.1 helical bevel, and UNIVERSAL SMI worm gear units. The NORDAC ON PURE decentralized variable frequency drive will also be available soon.
