Plant Openings & Expansions: October 2012

Starbucks Corp. is opening a new juice factory in Rancho Cucamonga, CA to handle the growth of its Evolution Fresh bottled drinks. The plant is expected to be operational late next year and will quadruple existing production and distribution capacity. The new 260,000-sq.-ft. facility will employ 160 people. 
 
Volpi Foods of St. Louis, MO, maker of dry-cured Italian meat products, is expanding its Northrup Avenue facility by 60,000 sq. ft. to increase its processing and cold storage space. Construction is expected to be complete by the first quarter of 2013. 
 
Sheetz, Inc. will build a new $32.8 million distribution and food production center in Burlington, NC, creating 254 new jobs. It will include 245,000 sq. ft. of space and produce a variety of bakery and ready-to-eat items including sandwiches, salads and other convenience restaurant foods.
 
McKee Foods Corporation is investing $19 million to expand the production capabilities at its Stuarts Draft, VA facility. The project is expected to create 78 new jobs. 
 
Farbest Foods broke ground on a new, 227,000-sq.-ft. turkey processing plant in the Vincennes, IN. Expected to begin production in January 2014, the $75 million plant will initially employ 360 people. 
 
Goya Foods broke ground for the next phase of its regional distribution center and headquarters in Jersey City, NJ. The 615,000-sq.-ft., $127 million facility is expected to employ almost 500 people.
