Milk to aid aseptic packaging growth

A new report predicts the global aseptic packaging market will grow at a compound annual rate of 9.33 percent through 2019.

By Jeremy Gerrard
February 10, 2015

Acceleration in the milk and dairy products industry across the globe will play a key role in propelling the growth of aseptic packaging in the coming years.

According to new research by TechNavio, these products will require aseptic packaging to enhance shelf life since their low acid content makes them vulnerable to microorganisms.

In the new report, “Global Aseptic Packaging Market 2015-2019,” analysts forecast the global market to grow at a compound annual rate of 9.33 percent from 2014 to 2019. This is due in part to the efficiency of supply chains that transport perishable products long distances without the loss of quality or reduction in nutritional value. Asia-Pacific is expected to generate the maximum revenue in the aseptic packaging market and is also estimated to be the fastest-growing market. Demand for aseptic food packaging in the coming years will be led by emerging economies such as China, India, Brazil and South Africa. Analysts say this is because of the growing consumption of beverages, rising disposable incomes and urbanization in these countries.

The “Aseptic Packaging Market By Type—Global Trends & Forecast To 2018” research report says cartons are currently the dominant aseptic packaging type being used in a wide range of applications, and their use is growing at a robust pace. Other types of packaging such as vials and ampoules, bags, pouches and others are projected to grow at a healthy compound annual growth rate.

When it comes to challenges inhibiting the growth of the aseptic packaging market, the report highlights the exorbitant capital expenditure incurred by vendors when setting up manufacturing facilities as a primary challenge.

The report recognized the following companies as the key players in the global aseptic packaging market: Amcor Ltd., Bemis Co. Inc., E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Co. (DuPont), Sealed Air Corp. and Tetra Laval International SA. Other prominent vendors in the market are: Aseptic Solutions USA, CDF, China Capak Packaging, DS Smith, Elopak, Goglio, Graham Packaging, Greatview Aseptic Packaging, Krones, Parish Manufacturing, Printpack, Robert Bosch, Scholle Packaging and SIG Combibloc.
