A tractor-trailer filled with more than 600 cases of cookies, snack cakes, donuts and other baked treats left Davenport, Iowa, bound for the 5,500 sailors aboard the U.S.S. Theodore Roosevelt, a nuclear aircraft carrier stationed in the Persian Gulf. Among the baked goods shipped were donuts donated by Mrs Baird's Bakeries (Bimbo Bakeries USA), Fort Worth, Texas; honeybuns from Flowers Bakeries, Thomasville, Ga.; Ding Dongs snack cakes from Interstate Brands Corp., Kansas City, Mo.; Chips Deluxe chocolate chip cookies from Keebler Foods, Elmhurst, Ill.; Goldfish snack crackers from Pepperidge Farm, Norwalk, Conn.; and blueberry muffins from Sara Lee Bakery Group, St. Louis, Mo. Most companies contributed several brands and varieties. BEMA, the bakery industry suppliers association, is funding transportation, which was staged out of Hansaloy Corp.'s manufacturing plant.

Urschel Laboratories Inc., world leader in the manufacturing of high capacity precision cutters for the food processing and related industries, announced two promotions. Tim O'Brien was named vice president, sales. Al Kurfman was promoted to vice president, information systems effective immediately. Kurfman has been manager of data processing since joining Urschel five years ago.
