The American Frozen Food Institute (AFFI) and National Frozen and Refrigerated Foods Association (NFRA) have selected two industry leaders as their 2008 inductees to the Frozen Food Hall of Fame. This year’s inductees are Frozen Food Digest Publisher Saul Beck and The Schwan Food Company Chairman of the Board Alfred Schwan. The inductees will be honored at a February 26 reception held during the AFFI Frozen Food Convention in San Diego, CA.

Stephen F. Sundlof, DVM, PhD

The FDA has appointed Stephen F. Sundlof, DVM, PhD, director of the Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN). Sundlof was previously director of the FDA’s Center for Veterinary Medicine (CVM). A clinician and noted scientist in the field of toxicology, Sundlof has worked toward the safety of food and feed throughout his career. Most recently, he has provided significant input into the development of the FDA’s Food Protection Plan issued in November 2007.

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Inc. has appointed the company’s Chairman of the Board James H. Moran to the additional positions of president and chief executive officer. Morgan has been a director of the company since July 2000.

Einstein Noah Restaurant Group appointed Thomas J. Mueller to serve on its board of directors. Mueller previously served as president and COO of Wendy’s International.

Crown Holdings, Inc. has selected Raymond L. McGowan, Jr. to replace Frank J. Mechura as president of its Americas Division. McGowan will report to John W. Conway, Crown’s chairman and CEO.

Pilgrim’s Pride Corp. announced the passing of its President and CEO O. B. Goolsby Jr. Goolsby, aged 60, served in that position since September 2004. Prior to that, he was president and COO for two years.

Donnie Smith

Donnie Smith, long-time senior executive of Tyson Foods, Inc., has been named the new group vice president of the Consumer Products Division. Smith most recently served as the company’s group vice president of logistics and operations services. Smith has been with Tyson since 1980 in a variety of roles.

OYSTAR USA is the new name of the NJ-based organization overseeing the sales, service and support for a collected group of former IWKA (now OYSTAR) machinery manufacturing sister companies serving the food and pharma industries in the US.

FKI Logistex named Matt Wicks as vice president of systems engineering for the company’s manufacturing systems group. Wicks’ promotion follows a recent consolidation of the systems and conveyor engineering groups.
