Plant Openings & Expansions: December 2012

December 5, 2012
Crescent Dairy & Beverages plans to invest more than $30 million to build a new pasteurized beverage processing facility in Collerton County, SC. The facility is expected to create 60 jobs over the next five years. The plant, located near the Port of Charleston, will serve mostly export markets.

Cargill will build a canola processing facility near Camrose, AB. Construction is expected to be completed in time for the 2014-15 canola harvest. The new crush facility is projected to have the capacity to process 850,000 metric tons of canola per year.

Horizon Milling will begin producing whole wheat flour at its facility in Kenosha, WI. When the project is complete, Horizon Milling will have doubled its current overall whole wheat flour capacity. The business currently produces whole wheat flour at its facilities in Ogden, UT; Mankato, MN; and Mount Pocono, PA.

Jack Link’s Beef Jerky purchased a packaged meat snack products manufacturing plant in Bellevue, NE. The plant, owned by Skylark Meats LLC, will allow it to increase production capacity to meet growing consumer demand. The Skylark/Bellevue plant, a copackaging producer of some of Jack Link’s products, will retain management and employees at the Nebraska plant.

Paramount Citrus opened a new packinghouse, which will be home to the company’s sweet, seedless, E-Z peel Cuties California Mandarins. The facility has more than 640,000 sq. ft.
