Report says organic farming fights food insecurity

Salinas, California-based Taylor Farms announced its Mexican branch, Taylor Farms de Mexico, will voluntarily suspend production of salad and lettuce mixes and will not resume production without the approval of US FDA. Processing stopped at the facility Friday and will be replaced by domestic crops and facilities in the US. Company officials say the suspension will help Taylor Farms cooperate with authorities in their investigation into a Cyclospora outbreak that has sickened more than 500 people in 18 states in the US. The shutdown is expected to last several weeks.
