WHO issues clarification on report linking processed meat to cancer

The World Health Organization has clarified the results of last week’s report which said the consumption of processed meats such as hot dogs, bacon and deli meats increases the risk of cancer—and eating red meat probably causes cancer as well.

Ground beef recalled for possible E. coli contamination

Omaha, Nebraska-based All American Meats, Inc. has issued a recall for approximately 167,427 pounds of ground beef products that may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7, according to USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

Non-fatal workplace injuries decreased in 2014

Despite nearly three million non-fatal workplace injuries and illnesses reported by private employers last year, results from a recent Bureau of Labor Statistics’ survey show the total recordable cases incidence rate fell 0.1 cases per 100 full-time workers.

After the World Health Organization declared this week processed meats increase the risk of cancer, the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine has filed a petition with USDA to stop the distribution of hot dogs and other processed meats to children through the National School Lunch Program.
