Fortifi Acquires SEPAFood Solutions GmbH

Fortifi Food Processing Solutions has acquired SEPAFood Solutions GmbH (SEPAmatic), a German engineering company specializing in development and production of separation machines for red meat, fish, fruit and vegetables.
SEPAmatic also is a global provider of low-pressure belt separators. The acquisition includes SEPAmatic's patented cooling system that manages heat rise during separation to enhance yields and product quality.
“SEPAmatic is a strong strategic addition to Fortifi’s growing portfolio of food processing technologies, complementing our existing separation solutions from Provisur and LIMA,” says Fortifi CEO Massimo Bizzi. “By expanding our capabilities in this critical area of processing, we can help customers maximize yield, recover more value from every raw material and reduce food loss and waste across their operations.”
SEPAmatic designs and manufactures its technologies in Germany, including low-pressure belt separators and screw separators, perforated drums in multiple configurations, conveyors and spare parts. The company's patented innovations include integrated cooling and speed regulation systems for its processing equipment.
In addition to its equipment designs, the acquisition adds engineering talent and manufacturing capability in an essential European market that reinforces Fortifi's global footprint.
“We look forward to working with the talented SEPAmatic team in Germany to further globalize the business,” says Mark Dowdle, executive vice president of strategy and business development for Fortifi. “By leveraging Fortifi’s existing operations and global reach, we see significant opportunities to accelerate growth in both original equipment and aftermarket parts revenue. SEPAmatic’s product portfolio will become part of our broader efforts to integrate AI and machine learning into the design, performance, and operation of our mechanical solutions.”
The combination of SEPAmatic's soft-tissue separation technologies with Fortifi's existing separation solutions gives customers access to a broader range of capabilities and offerings from a single partner. These technologies help processors improve yield, product quality and operational efficiency while they reduce food waste. Fortifi's scale, service network and support infrastructure stand behind these technologies around the world.
Fortifi acquired SEPAmatic from its founding family and from BPE, a small-cap private equity firm headquartered in Hamburg, Germany, which specializes in succession opportunities.
SEPAmatic employees join Fortifi's ownership program, which provides all employees with the opportunity to participate in the benefits of equity ownership.
