Nestlé switched to a recyclable paper wrapper for its YES! fruit, nut and chocolate snack bars sold in Europe. It’s the first time a confectionery bar has been packaged in paper using high-speed flow wrap technology, the company says.

Nestlé predicted that the launch will unlock wider use of paper packaging in the confectionery industry.

“Up until now, high-speed production of shelf-stable snacks was only achieved using plastic films and laminates,” the announcement from Nestlé says. “Now paper can be used at large scale while guaranteeing product quality and freshness over the entire shelf life.”

The wrapper is a step in Nestlé’s commitment to make all its packaging recyclable or reusable by 2025. The paper is from sources certified as sustainable. Nestlé expects to sell the bars with no added sugar and high fiber in more countries soon.
