In an effort to allow FDA to sample water, soil and environmental conditions on USDA-regulated concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs), New York Sen. Kirsten E. Gillibrand introduced a bill that would provide the FDA authority to conduct microbial sampling on CAFOs as necessary for a foodborne illness outbreak investigation, determine the outbreak’s root cause or address other public health needs.
During the recent romaine lettuce E. coli outbreak, the CDC web-site page for E. Coli got 2 million page views. The month before that, it had gotten just 125,000.

The Interagency Safety Analytics Collaboration (IFSAC), a joint effort between the USDA, FDA and CDC, has come out with its findings of the causes of foodborne illnesses in 2013.
Triple T Specialty Meats, Inc is recalling about 20,630 lbs. of ready-to-eat chicken salad products, which it produced for the grocery store chain after reports showed that it may be contaminated with Salmonella Typhimurium.
