CDC is collaborating with public health officials in several states and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to investigate an outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes infections (Listeriosis) linked to commercially produced, prepackaged caramel apples that has caused multiple deaths.

The commercially produced, prepackaged caramel apples may be contaminated with Listeria,  causing the outbreak.

The Minnesota Departments of Health and Agriculture are working with CDC and FDA to investigate a multi-state outbreak of listeriosis linked to eating prepackaged caramel apples.

The CDC says an outbreak of Salmonella Enteritidis that infected 63 people across 10 states is likely to have originated from raw bean sprouts.

One death and a handful of illnesses have been reported.
