The Hershey Company is displaying a number of "Better-for-You" products at Natural Products Expo West, including permissible salty snacks, protein, no-sugar-added, zero-sugar and plant-based products, on the heels of the just announced nationwide launch of Hershey’s Plant Based and the new addition of Reese’s Plant Based.
Last November, the U.S. FDA announced that it had completed an evaluation of UPSIDE Foods’ cultured animal cell foods and had “no further questions at this time about the firm’s safety conclusion.” While the FDA pointed out that there were still other regulatory hurdles to overcome for cell-cultured foods could be brought to market, namely from the USDA and FSIS, the announcement was seen by many as an important step in adding another option to the alternative protein space—one of a number of trends involving alternative protein in the past year.
The company's meat alternative is now available at BESTIES Vegan Paradise, Los Angeles; Food Fight! Grocery, Portland; Orchard Grocer, New York, and also on Amazon.
Starting Monday, February 13, Chick-fil-A will be testing the cauliflower sandwich in Denver, Charleston, S.C. and North Carolina's Greensboro-Triad region.
