Heat seal coating specialist Sappi Rockwell Solutions has launched a recyclable, lightweight, heat seal lidding film designed for the fresh produce market.

The global PBAT (polybutylene adipate terephthalate) market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 8.7% during the forecast period 2021 to 2031 with an end value of $2 billion, according to a report by Transparent Market Research. Fruit and vegetable intelligent packaging using PBAT-based biodegradable mulch films is used to reduce food waste. The films provide increased oxygen and water vapor transfer rates in fruit and vegetable bags.

We hear a lot (really, constantly) about the supply chain and the many causes for it faltering the past year: shortage of labor to move goods—especially truck drivers and dock workers—inconsistent ingredient supplies, record inflation for materials and on and on. 

Tyson Foods broke ground on a new $355 million bacon production facility in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The 400,000-square-foot plant will employ 450 people and help meet growing demand for the company’s Wright and Jimmy Dean brands. The facility is scheduled to open in 2023.

Else Nutrition, the plant-based baby, toddler and children nutrition company headquartered in Israel, has signed an agreement to establish a specialized manufacturing site to process and prepare Else’s proprietary specialized, demineralized buckwheat for its infant formula.

Conagra Brands, Inc. has voluntarily recalled a limited amount of Wish-Bone Thousand Island and Chunky Blue Cheese dressings due to egg in the product, which is not declared on the product label. 

SuperMeat, a food-tech company that develops cultivated meat products, has announced the results of the first-ever blind tasting of cultivated chicken compared to traditional, conventionally produced chicken.

Gummy supplement manufacturer TopGum Industries, Ltd., has begun construction of a new, $30 million, 118,400 sq.-ft. plant, located 1.5 hours south of Tel Aviv.
