The South Carolina facility is the third of five new PDCs Walmart is opening nationwide, marking a milestone in the company’s supply chain transformation.
FoodNet, which is a collaboration between the CDC, USDA FSIS, FDA and 10 state health departments, previously tracked infections caused by eight pathogens. As of July, monitoring is required for only two pathogens.
Kraft Heinz says the separation – which comes a decade after the merger of Kraft Foods and H.J. Heinz – aims to maximize its capabilities and brands while reducing complexity.
The transaction includes three production facilities – located in Carrington, N.D.; New Hope, Minn.; and Winchester, Va. – as well as the Ronzoni retail brand.
The Associated Press reports the facility will reopen in the coming months but it will be subject to 90 days of “heightened” inspection by federal officials.
The expansion will provide areas to accelerate research and innovation across the company’s business units, offering flexibility to meet demands and providing space for both core growth and new business initiatives.
A common goal unites the three organizations: to transform the global food system through science-driven innovation that supports both human health and environmental sustainability.
