PulPac has announced further patent grants for its cellulose forming technology that makes it possible to replace single-use plastics with fiber-based alternatives.

Alaska Airlines’ inflight water service is getting a planet-friendly upgrade. The airline is trading plastic water bottles for Boxed Water Is Better brand's 92% plant-based cartons and swapping out plastic cups with recyclable paper cups for water service. This will save an estimated 1.8 million pounds of single-use plastics from flights over the next year.

Kellogg’s is trialing fully recyclable packaging for its boxes of Corn Flakes, replacing the plastic liner for paper. The food giant has said it would prefer plastic liners to be accepted in curbside recycling, but the trial of the paper alternative in a small number of Tesco stores from January “ensures we have an alternative."

Peter Fox has been promoted to CEO of SOMIC Packaging. Fox is a 30-year packaging industry veteran, and has served as the Senior VP of Sales at SOMIC since joining the Minnesota-headquartered company in 2014, which manufactures of end-of-line, retail-ready case packaging machinery.
